Not like an actor’s, surrounded by makeup and dipped in eye drops; his were so natural, untamed and untouched, so much that you wanted to put them on wildlife reserve, and protect them, never letting them be tainted by modern society, unchanged, keeping the colors forever in a land of unwalked beaches and unheard birds, with nothing but the breeze making them flicker.
When he smiled they sparkled, and when he laughed you could swear there were windchimes near, even on the stillest nights when the moon was half-way full, the clouds not moving to obscure the stars.

For in our reflections we saw nothing:
Nothing but an abuser, a devil cackling with beastly pleasure,
Even in a stilled and frowning face.
Yet we force our lips to smile,
A "thank you, sir," strong handshake,
Accepting a pat on the shoulder.
Any who look, though,
Must see in our eyes
The same fear of those

There was a wide open area behind my house, and I was only allowed out of the house for thirty minutes at thirteen years old.
So I ran out, ran up the hill and climbed up our throne of an oak tree, waiting for him.
Same time every day, same routine. His house was on the opposite side of the hill, and it was never too long before he came out after me.
